CHICAGO (AP) — Cook County health clinics will be closed Friday in the first of five "shutdown days" approved earlier this year by the county board. The countywide shutdown was part of a move to save jobs and pass a balanced budget.
Sixteen county clinics will be closed. Pharmacies, labs and hospital-based specialty clinics also will be shuttered for the day.
Emergency rooms at Stroger, Provident and Oak Forest hospitals will remain open. So will the urgent care walk-in clinic at the Fantus Health Center.
The remaining Cook County shutdown days are May 27, July 1, Sept. 2 and Nov. 25.
