Congressman Danny K. Davis to Distribute 1,000 Winter Coats to Families in Need

In a heartfelt effort to combat the harsh realities of winter, Congressman Danny K. Davis is teaming up with the Bright Leadership Institute and an anonymous donor to distribute 1,000 winter coats to individuals and families in need. The event, set for Saturday, Jan. 11, 2025, will take place at Davis’s Chicago office, located at 2813 W. Fifth Ave., beginning at 11:00 a.m.

“This initiative is about more than just coats,” Congressman Davis said. “It’s about keeping our neighbors warm and showing them they’re not alone. Together, we can make sure no one is left out in the cold.”

The collaboration also brings in Commissioners Michael Scott and Tara Stamps, Maywood Mayor Nathaniel Booker, Bellwood Mayor Andre Harvey, and State Representative Omar Williams. Their support highlights the importance of partnerships in addressing critical needs within the community.

Representatives from the Bright Leadership Institute will join Davis in welcoming attendees and distributing the coats. The event offers a chance to witness community leaders in action, working to ensure that every resident has the resources they need to weather Chicago’s brutal winters.

“This is what community looks like,” said a representative from the Bright Leadership Institute. “By coming together, we can meet immediate needs while building a stronger, more supportive neighborhood.”

Attendees can expect to hear remarks from Congressman Davis and Bright Leadership Institute representatives as coats are handed out. Media are encouraged to attend, with opportunities to capture the distribution and speak with Davis and other event partners about their ongoing efforts to support vulnerable populations.

For many in the community, a warm coat can make all the difference. Congressman Davis and his partners aim to ensure that, this winter, no one has to face the cold alone.
