CHICAGO (AP) — Students in the nation’s third largest school district have one last day to enjoy their freedom.
Classes start Tuesday for Chicago Public Schools.
Cook County Board President Todd Stroger has planned a back-to-school event on Monday afternoon at the House of Hope in Chicago.
The event will include a school supply giveaway and peace rally with speakers.
Stroger says children have to be equipped with the tools to succeed and making sure students attend the first day of class is crucial.
More than 435,000 students are enrolled in Chicago Public Schools.
