EAST ST. LOUIS, Ill. (AP) — Some students in East St. Louis are getting an extended summer vacation, thanks to some copper thieves. Authorities say the thieves pulled copper and brass worth between $300 and $400 out of the rooftop air conditioners at Younge Middle School. With the cooling units out of operation, classes won’t be able to start Monday as scheduled. School officials now say school won’t be in session for the middle school’s 550 students until Aug. 30.
