As national debates threaten to roll back diversity and equity efforts, Chicago’s Black business community is pushing forward—and gathering to strategize.
On Monday, June 23, the Business Leadership Council (BLC) will host a roundtable discussion titled “The State of Chicago’s Black Business Community, Available Resources and Growth Opportunities.” The event, held in partnership with the City of Chicago and Mayor Brandon Johnson, will take place at RPM Events, 317 N. Clark St. Networking begins at 5:30 p.m., followed by the panel at 6:00 p.m.
The conversation comes at a pivotal time. As federal efforts to scale back diversity and equity programs gain momentum, Black business leaders in Chicago are voicing growing concern about the potential impact on economic opportunity and inclusion.
The roundtable will feature a panel of key city leaders:
Ciere Boatright, Commissioner, Department of Planning and Development
Sharla Roberts, Chief Procurement Officer
Lotika Pai, Chief Small Business Officer
The panel will be moderated by Keiana Barrett, CEO of BLC.
The goal: to explore current challenges facing Black-owned businesses, connect entrepreneurs with vital city resources, and spark new ideas for growth and sustainability in an uncertain climate.
Founded to amplify the voice and impact of Chicago’s Black business community, BLC represents a network of influential Black leaders and entrepreneurs across the city’s corporate and civic landscape.
