Full-figured women finally have a blog that tailors celebrity gossip just for them: www.thicksational.com. In sharp contrast to other Web sites, this one’s sole focus is plus-sized entertainers. Avid blog reader Krys Nicole, 25, launched thicksational.com
“What’s the difference between Queen Latifah and Beyoncé?” Nicole said she asked herself when other blogs turned down the gossip she would offer them about full-figured stars. Thicksational.com features updates on the happenings of female celebrities such as Angie Stone, Raven Symone and Jill Scott that other gossip Web sites might overlook.
Nicole, who noted that she had been discriminated against because of her own size, explained that in addition to focusing on celebrities, she wants the site to be a motivational tool. “You do not have to be a size 2 to be successful,” she said. Nicole explained that she wants to reach out to full-figured women, “who need to see someone who looks like them.”
Another feature that makes thicksational. com unique is that much of its gossip is positive, unlike other blogs. “Private business should remain private,” Nicole said. “I personally feel I can be successful without all the bashing,” she added. Nicole noted, however, that when there was a rumor that a celebrity had her stomach stapled, she posted it.
“It’s something that pertains to us,” she explained, referring to overweight women. In the future, Nicole hopes to cover more plus-sized male celebrities, do personal interviews with full-figured stars and make “Thicksational” into a clothing line and brand. Ultimately, she aspires for the Web site to be about more that just Hollywood gossip.
“It’s not just a celebrity blog, it’s a motivation blog, it’s an encouragement blog for women to accept who they are and love themselves,” Nicole said.
