Big Girl Cosmetics is blossoming into spring with a launch party for its

new line, Vava Bloom. The collection dazzles with eye-popping shadows and

lip glosses. Big Girl Cosmetics is the brainchild of Kiley Russell, but

she unwittingly got help from talk-show queen Oprah Winfrey.

"I was in the audience when she gave away the Pontiac G6 cars," she told

the Defender during the launch event last month for the new line. She sold

the car to start up her business.

"Big Girl started six years ago, as a side project I did for family and

friends," she said. Russell even developed a lip gloss in tribute to

Winfrey called, "Angel". The company’s mission is to empower women to

create their own definition of beauty. Last year, Russell opened Big Girl

Makeup Bar and Spa in Hyde Park, where she lives. The location features a

full line of Big Girl Cosmetics and makeup services. The spa attachment

offers waxing, facials, manicure and pedicure combos, and even eyelash

application.

Chicago is just the beginning for the cosmetics line.

Dozens of supporters and customers packed the shop recently to help

Russell celebrate in grand style the start of the new line that features

items she is sure will “excite the most trendsetting fashionistas.”

So far Russell’s products are available only at the shop right now, but she is looking forward to expanding to the retail market, landing in a major department store and taking the products to a national market.

"I’m really excited. The Vava Bloom line speaks volumes for us. We are

looking to bloom. It’s growth. It’s about moving on and forward," she

said. Although, Russell is in the beauty business, but she is more

concerned with overall well-being. "I just want people to focus on taking

care of themselves. There is so much to deal with day-to-day chores, work,

and school. I want them to relax.”
