The man accused in the triple slaying of singer/actress Jennifer Hudson’s family was in court Thursday. William Balfour was shackled at the ankles and minus the long hair when he appeared for about five minutes before Cook County Criminal Court Judge Lawrence Fox to ask for a continuance in his murder case. Balfour is the estranged husband of Jennifer’s sister, Julia Hudson. A public defender said their office was presented with at least 1,000 documents for discovery in Balfour’s case and needs more time to digest the information. Balfour pled not guilty in January to three counts of first-degree murder and one count of home invasion. Prosecutors said the 28-year-old shot the Hudson sisters’ mother Darnell Donerson, 57, brother Jason Hudson, 29, and Julia’s 7-year-old son, Julian King, last October. Balfour is jailed without bond. His next court date is July 6. ______ Copyright 2009 Chicago Defender. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten, or redistributed.
