Baby´s death ruled homicide

The Cook County medical examiner’s office has determined the death of a 5-month-old boy died last week was the result of head injuries and his death was a homicide.

An autopsy determined Malik Ousley’s death stemmed from child abuse.

The boy was taken Thursday from a South Side Chicago home to the University of Chicago Comer Children’s Hospital after having trouble breathing. Malik was pronounced dead there on Saturday.

Spokesman Jimmie Whitelow of the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services says the agency is investigating Malik’s death. Three other children from Malik’s home were staying with relatives.

Chicago police spokeswoman Officer JoAnn Taylor says the department were interviewing several people as part of the homicide investigation.
