Neighbor Preston Smith told the paper after the attack last year that Metcalf first used the 14-inch mechanical chain saw on his car and then “just started swiping at me.”
He said he went to Metcalf’s house for a beer after finishing a shift for the Chicago Department of Streets and Sanitation and the situation quickly escalated.
Metcalf faces two to five years in prison.
