CHICAGO (AP) — Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan’s office is checking up on nursing homes in the state.
The latest compliance check was at a Peoria facility. Her office says it’s the 13th check that has been done.
The checks are part of Operation Guardian. Under the program, Madigan’s office, along with other law enforcement and state regulators, visit facilities to make sure residents are being properly cared for in safe environments.
During these visits, officials are looking to see that — among other things — residents’ rights aren’t being violated and that licenses are in proper order.
Madigan says the program puts nursing home operators on high alert that regulators could swoop in at anytime to check out their facilities.
