Adams not off to South Africa

Carol Adams, Ph.D., the former secretary of the Illinois Dept. of Human Services, was headed to South Africa as the state’s liaison.

But Adams reportedly sent Gov. Pat Quinn a letter Friday turning down the job offer, citing family medical issues that would make the move to Johannesburg in January impossible.

Quinn appointed Adams to the post last month and said he still plans to fill the position.

In the meantime, the Defender has learned that Adams, who was turned down earlier this year for the job as president of Chicago State University, will go to work for the DuSable Museum of African American History.
