3 charged in Chicago's first 2009 homicide

Three men have been charged with Chicago’s first homicide of 2009.

Three men have been charged with Chicago’s first homicide of 2009. Chicago police say they’ve charged 26-year-old Lorenzo Hall of Steger with first-degree murder and aggravated battery in the New Year Day’s death of 47-year-old David Garrett. Officials have also charged 26-year-old Forrest Smith of Mt. Prospect and 19-year-old Malcolm Whitehead of Rolling Meadows with first-degree murder. Police say 25-year-old Lee Foster of Glenview was with the men and has been charged with probation violation. Authorities say the men were arguing in the early hours of Jan. 1 when Hall allegedly drew a handgun and shot Garrett in the head. Officials say Hall and the others fled but were later identified by surveillance video. ______ Copyright 2009 Associated Press. All rights reserved.
