CHICAGO (AP) — Chicago fire officials say about 150 people who didn’t want to lose their places in line at a bus stop were treated for heat-related illnesses.
Fire officials say paramedics treated three people who collapsed and provided water and Gatorade in a shaded area to the other bus riders. The Chicago Transportation Authority provided cooling buses. Officials say none of the people waiting at the Megabus stop were hospitalized.
The bus stop is at the city’s Union Station. The National Weather Service has forecast highs around 90 in the Chicago metro area.
The American Red Cross urges residents to avoid strenuous activity during hot weather and spend time in an air-conditioned area each day.
